Day 9/19 Purification Series - The Crown
Day 9 - The Crown
“During the days I lay in the prison of Ṭihrán, though the galling weight of the chains and the stench-filled air allowed Me but little sleep, still in those infrequent moments of slumber I felt as if something flowed from the crown of My head over My breast, even as a mighty torrent that precipitateth itself upon the earth from the summit of a lofty mountain. Every limb of My body would, as a result, be set afire. At such moments My tongue recited what no man could bear to hear.”
- Bahá’u’lláh
The crown of our heads are the entry point to the divine and sacred revelation, it is the highest part of our body, the furthest distance from the earth, it is an open and receptive energetic entry point to on high.
Like a trees fruit, the roots need to be rooted into the ground, so that the tree can grow upwards and outwards and fulfill its full potential and bear fruit on the ‘crown’ of a tree.
It is the same reason why hair is sacred in many cultures, because it is on the head, it is said to '‘hold the energy’ of the divine mercy and bounties. It is why Sikhs wear head rests, and people who practice kundalini yoga wrap their heads with white cloths, or we wear night caps in the night, to preserve the divine energy on the head and not to allow it to dissipate and remain vulnerable to the outside realm.
“Shave not your heads; God hath adorned them with hair, and in this there are signs from the Lord of creation to those who reflect upon the requirements of nature. He, verily, is the God of strength and wisdom.” - Bahá’u’lláh
“The beauty and perfection of the human body require the existence of the ear, the eye, the brain, and even the nails and hair: If man were all brain, eyes, or ears, this would be tantamount to imperfection. So the absence of hair, eyelashes, teeth, and nails is imperfection itself, for even though in comparison with the eyes the latter are insentient and resemble the mineral and the plant, yet their absence in the body of man is most disagreeable and displeasing.” - ‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Needless to saw, our heads, the crown, where we house our thoughts, our brain, is a significant part of our body which requires attention and care as to what goes in it, on it, around it etc.
Below are qualities that Bahá’u’lláh has mentioned should be placed on the crown of our heads,
. Justice
. Trustworthiness
. Detachment
. Righteousness
. Fear of God
. Reliance upon God
. Remembrance
“Attire mine head with the crown of justice, and my temple with the ornament of equity.”
“Trustworthiness is in truth the best of vestures for your temples and the most glorious crown for your heads.”
“Adorn the heads of Thy loved ones with the crown of detachment and attire their temples with the raiment of righteousness”
“Purify thou, first, thy soul with the waters of renunciation, and adorn thine head with the crown of the fear of God, and thy temple with the ornament of reliance upon Him.”
“Adorn, then, his head with the crown of Thy remembrance, in such wise that his fame may be noised abroad among Thy servants as one who loveth Thee and cleaveth steadfastly to Thy Cause.”
Reflection Questions
Is the crown of your head sensitive and easily affected by the outside elements?
What would you like to add as jewels onto the crown of your head? List them out.
Do you have blocks, doubts, suspicions and hesitations about the divine? If so, what are they? List them out.
Prayer
“O Thou kind Lord! Grant that these trees may become the adornment of the Abhá Paradise. Cause them to grow through Thy celestial bounty. Make them fresh and verdant and besprinkle them with heavenly dewdrops. Attire them with robes of radiant beauty and crown their heads with gorgeous blossoms. Adorn them with goodly fruit and waft over them Thy sweet savours.
Thou art the Bestower, the All-Loving, the Most Radiant, the Most Resplendent.”
—‘Abdu’l-Bahá
